Mike's Answers to “What You Should Know Before Renting a Limousine”

Why should I ask to see the company's limos and charter buses?

Check out the vehicle you plan on renting, you might find a better vehicle to fit your needs. Some companies utilize older limo fleets and you don't want to be surprised on your rental day when a 1990 limo shows up at your home; when you were expecting a year 2007 model! A reliable and professional company will have pictures of their vehicles posted online with their company listings. That's why at Mike's Limousine you can view the interior and exterior of our entire line of vehicles online. We believe the customer should know exactly what they are booking.

Why is the cheapest price not always better?

The limousine you booked does not arrive on time and now you are late for your special occasion. The limousine arrives to pick you up and it is a 1989 limousine rusting at the seams, when you were expecting a 2007 model. Now, instead of being lavished in luxury, you are embarrassed on your big special occasion. The limousine chauffeur exercises poor customer service. As a result, a verbal altercation ensues and now your special day is ruined. You need to ask yourself if it is worth risking your special occasion to save a few dollars.

A reservation clearinghouse, or internet broker, doesn't own their own vehicles. They merely take your reservation and hopefully hire a locally based company. Once this transaction is complete, the broker effectively loses control over your job, leaving you at risk. Because you are the local based company's direct client, you may not get the limo or the service you expected. The total price you will pay is above market pricing, due to the hidden cost of the broker. This broker fee can be in access of up to 20% of the market price. Something else to consider is if you have any problems with the service, the internet broker has little or no control over the service; since they don't own the cars or hire the chauffeurs. If the local company receives an opportunity to service one of their OWN clients, you may be left standing on your special occasion.

Why should I have a signed contract for my special event?

A reliable and professional service will be more than happy to provide you with a signed-contract for service. Companies who can't supply a contract may not be confident in their ability to fulfill your needs. You also take the chance of booking with a "here today, gone tomorrow" company by not having a contract.

Why should I ask if the limo company has insurance and permits?

All limousines are required to carry commercial livery insurance and proper permits. Companies who belong to industry associations usually must abide by special insurance regulations and service rules. Unfortunately, the advertising services do not require the companies to advertise if they are insured. You don't want to be the client who turns out to be "The Limo Got into an Accident" or "We don't have your reservation" news story. Don't take a chance with the limousine you booked getting into an accident and the company not having proper insurance to cover the damages involved in your injuries. As a consumer you need to protect yourself from "gypsy companies" – ask for proof of these with your signed contract. At Mike's limo, our company is fully insured.

Should I worry if the limo company does not belong to any association?

Reputable associations such as the National Limousine Association (NLA) and the local livery association are good indications that your service provider does their due diligence. The Better Business Bureau also is a good research source – complaints about limousine services are not far behind auto mechanics complaints. Cover yourself by getting a signed contract and by shopping smart. Shopping on price alone is dangerous. Some unethical operators do not hesitate to drop a reservation to pickup a better paying fare. Mike's limousine does belong to the NLA, BBB, TAWP, and The Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce.
